English is a sharp, tender, and often humorous play set in 2008 in a small TOEFL classroom in Karaj, Iran. Four adult students—each with different motivations for learning English—meet three times a week under the guidance of Marjan, a teacher who insists on banning Farsi from the room. As they struggle with grammar, idioms, and pronunciation, the classroom becomes a space where deeper questions emerge: What does it mean to speak a language that is not your own? What parts of yourself are lost—or found—when you adopt a new linguistic identity?
